  • This is evidenced by the Carbon Neutral Certificate delivered by South Pole to the Company.
  • ISA, and its affiliate INTERCOLOMBIA, offset their carbon footprint through the investment in a pioneering project in Bajo Cauca, Antioquia.

ISA received Carbon Neutral Certificate from South Pole by offsetting 100% of its greenhouse gas emissions in the Energy Transmission business, through an innovative initiative of restoring lands degraded by livestock and mining in the municipality of Caceres.

Unlike commercial reforestation practices based on planting of tree monocultures, this project called "Restoration and reforestation of degraded areas with native species" focuses on the recovery of soils of tropical forests and the restoration of habitat for endangered species, such as turtles and parrots.

The project is based on principles of sustainable forest management and it is the first in the country to be certified under voluntary carbon standards The Climate, Community & Biodiversity Standards -CBS- and Verified Carbon Standard -VCS- (the strictest for forestry carbon projects worldwide).

In addition, the initiative contributes to land-use planning, protection of biodiversity and improving the quality of life of communities in the Bajo Cauca, Antioquia, through funding of different educational, cultural and socioeconomic activities.

Since 2012, ISA and INTERCOLOMBIA have offset 10,582 tons of CO2 from its emissions related to its operation in the Energy Transmission business in Colombia. Besides such 100% offset by ISA in the last year, INTERCOLOMBIA has offset about 90%.

With ISA’s contribution to this project, and its affiliate INTERCOLOMBIA, they confirm their contribution to climate change mitigation and aim at the commitments undertaken by Colombia in the XXI International Conference on UN climate change last year in Paris. Importantly, compensation is made with internationally certified projects suitable under the requirements of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index", said Bernardo Vargas Gibsone, President of ISA.

About the environmental objective of ISA and its companies
From its sustainability approach, ISA and its companies have declared their commitment to conduct their business activities within a framework of environmentally sustainable development, exercising their responsibility for the impacts that their decisions or activities cause to society and the environment within its sphere of influence. Under this context, ISA and its companies manage their inventory of greenhouse gases and contribute to society in coping with the consequences of climate change and the challenges of mitigation and adaptation through land management.
