Internexa connects Colombia with Brazil and the United States

Internexa S.A. and Internexa Brasil Operadora de Telecomunicaçoes S.A., affiliates of Interconexión Eléctrica S.A. E.S.P. – ISA, entered into agreements with Telefónica International Wholesale Services Colombia S.A. and Telefónica International Wholesale Services Brasil Ltda., respectively (“INTERNEXA”), for the acquisition of rights to use fractions of pairs of dark fiber optic on submarine cable systems that connect Colombia with Brazil and both countries with the US, including the operation and maintenance of the same, of the equipment used by INTERNEXA to exploit optic fibers and the collocation of equipment.

The rights and activities associated with such agreements, as well as the necessary investments for integration into INTERNEXA’S data transmission network are worth a total of one hundred and twenty million dollars (USD 120,000,000) during its implementation and they will be in effect for a minimum term of 15 years.

The transaction has been approved by the Board of Directors of Internexa S.A. in Colombia, and the Management Board of Internexa Brasil Operadora de Telecomunicaçoes S.A., in Brazil.

With this investment, INTERNEXA who currently has 30,000 km of terrestrial fiber optics will now have 49,000 km of fiber optic cables and becomes a Tier-1 in the Latin American telecommunications market.
