As a consequence of the new defined ISA2030 strategy and our focus on continuous improvement, our Environmental Policy was recently updated and stablishes that we are committed to identify, assess and implement the necessary measures for the management of the risks that the development of our activities may generate on the natural systems and social environments where we are present. In addition, we value, respect and support natural heritage, especially those protected areas of importance to biodiversity, in categories I-IV, as set out in the declarations of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

Asset's life cycle

ARPEX and ARA tools help optimize the layout of transmission lines to avoid/minimize the crossing of natural ecosystems. Then, the DAA and the EIA go into further details to minimize the risks on biodiversity. The EMP (Environmental Management Programs), includes all the measures needed to mitigate, compensate and avoid the identified impacts on biodiversity; and is applied during all the stages of assets life cycle. We abide respect the legislation established in every country in which we operate, which includes the application of mitigation hierarchy.

Compensation of impacts

ISA has mandatory and voluntary targets to compensate its impacts on biodiversity which are generated by the development of new Energy Transmission projects. Mandatory targets are imposed by the environmental authority and are done under a methodology that ensures No Net Loss of Biodiversity.

Contribution to conservation

In the framework of the ISA Group strategic approach to sustainability, the Jaguar Connection sustainability flagship program was created in conjunction with the communities and experts in the carbon markets and conservation of big cats, to contribute to the conservation of biodiversity and the mitigation of climate change, which are relevant issues for the sustainability of the business. This program is implemented through forestry projects in priority areas for the protection, recovery and connection of Jaguar habitats and corridors in areas of company presence and interest. ISA and its companies establish spaces for alliances with environmental institutions or companies, including national authorities, NGO and partners, whose are linked to the compliance of our Environmental Policy. We explore and motivate synergies aimed at the conservation and protection of biodiversity in accordance with national and regional priorities.
